Along a major highway in Borno State, Nigerian Army forces in Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai have prevented suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members from carrying out a planned bombing.
During an ambush operation in the Trans-Timbuktu (TT) route, close to the Katarko–Goniri region, the soldiers killed two of the suspected terrorists.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, disclosed this on his X account on Monday.

Makama said that the forces responded to credible information that ISWAP militants were preparing to place IEDs along the route.
“During the encounter, troops engaged the terrorists in a brief but decisive firefight, killing two insurgents and forcing others to flee.
“Items recovered from the scene include two AK-47 rifles, several magazines, a motorcycle, and materials used for making explosives. The soldiers also found tools used to dig into tarred roads where IEDs are usually hidden,” Makama wrote.

Makama said the quick action of the troops helped to stop what could have been a deadly attack on both military and civilian vehicles using the highway.
Following the incident, the military has increased patrols and route-clearing operations in the area to stop future attempts by insurgents.
