President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), effective August 27, 2026.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his official account on X.
Enitan succeeds Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is stepping down upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
An indigene of Osun State, Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. Over his seven-year and seven-month tenure as Permanent Secretary, he has served across several key portfolios, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the Vice President, and most recently, the Federal Ministry of Education.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and the College of Arts and Science in Ile-Ife. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988, followed by a Master of Science in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
President Tinubu commended outgoing head Walson-Jack for her dedicated public service and the reforms achieved during her tenure.
Charging the incoming leader to build on this momentum, President Tinubu urged Enitan to consolidate ongoing innovations, deepen professionalism, and drive accountability to deliver an efficient, merit-driven civil service aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
