The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest.

In a statement sent by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the APC Presidential Campaign Council made the demand on Friday evening.

According to Alake, Obi ought to keep his earlier promise to withdraw from the presidential contest in the event that his administration in Anambra State was shown to be at fault.

The council claimed that official financial records had already established the liabilities and urged the former Anambra governor to keep his word.

The statement also criticised Obi, who is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), over his recent interview with the BBC, during which he maintained that he won the 2023 presidential election but acknowledged that he had no evidence to support the claim.

“Obi should present verifiable evidence to support his claim of winning the 2023 presidential election, especially when INEC’s official results placed him third,” Alake said.

The APC campaign council maintained that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election had been settled through the legal process.

Alake noted that President Bola Tinubu’s victory was upheld by the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court.

The council accused Obi of continuing to question the election outcome despite the courts’ decisions.

It added that Tinubu was focused on implementing his administration’s economic, educational and infrastructure policies rather than engaging in arguments over the previous election.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has claimed that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are working for President Bola Tinubu.Track Exec Orders

Adeyanju urged Nigerians not to vote for Obi in 2027 because such votes are for Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Posting on X, the activist lawyer wrote: “Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are working for Tinubu as they did in 2023. Don’t waste your votes again on them like 2023.

“A vote for them is a vote for Bola Tinubu and the APC. They know exactly what they are doing.”

Contrary to Adeyanju’s claim, Obi ran for the presidency under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, while Kwankwaso was the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, presidential candidate.

While Tinubu won the election, Obi came third behind the then-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.
