Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all picked up maximum points on Saturday afternoon in matchday seven of the English Premier League.
Chelsea continued their winning run after thrashing Bournemouth 5-1 last week. The Blues defeated a stubborn and fearless Everton side 2-0 away from home, with Pedro Neto scoring both goals.
The game, which ended goalless in the first half after a fierce battle, turned in Chelsea’s favour after the break, with both goals coming in the second half, in the 46th and 90th minutes.
The Blues not only secured all three points but also kept a clean sheet. The statistics were closely matched, but Chelsea edged Everton in possession, recording 53% compared to the hosts’ 47%. Both sides also created two chances in the game.
Chelsea have now moved into the top four with 13 points following the victory.
Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford in the seventh matchday of the English Premier League on Saturday.
The Reds ended Brentford’s unbeaten start to the league campaign after recovering from a first-half deficit to claim all three points at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Brentford took the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter, who scored with a header, but their hopes of maintaining the advantage suffered a major setback shortly before half-time when Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off for headbutting Jérémy Jacquet.
Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage in the second half, with Victor Muñoz drawing the visitors level in the 62nd minute after receiving a pass from Florian Wirtz.
Alexander Isak then completed the comeback in the 70th minute, finishing after Bradley Barcola’s contribution to put Liverpool ahead for the first time in the match.
Brentford’s afternoon became even more difficult when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card late in the game, leaving the hosts with nine men as Liverpool held on for the victory.
The result lifted Liverpool above Brentford into fifth place in the Premier League table with 12 points, while Brentford suffered their first league defeat of the season.
Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League campaign after defeating Ipswich Town 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City secured their seventh consecutive league victory under manager Enzo Maresca, extending their lead at the top of the table despite facing a spirited challenge from the visitors.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but Ipswich responded almost immediately, with Daizen Maeda equalising two minutes later to make it 1-1.
The hosts restored their advantage in the 34th minute when Erling Haaland found the net, giving City a 2-1 lead heading into the half-time break.
Haaland struck again in the 69th minute to extend City’s advantage to 3-1, putting the home side in a comfortable position as they looked to preserve their unbeaten record.
However, Ipswich refused to give up and were awarded a penalty following a VAR review late in the match. Zian Flemming converted from the spot in the 90th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-2 and set up a tense finish.
Despite Ipswich’s late pressure, Manchester City held on to secure maximum points and maintain their 100% winning record after seven league matches.
The victory strengthened City’s position at the summit of the Premier League table, opening up a six-point gap over their closest challengers.
