The Super Eagles of Nigeria were completely beaten and overpowered by hosts Guinea-Bissau, who took total control of the game on their home turf.
First half: The game started with both sides playing cautiously and looking to break the deadlock. The Super Eagles unfortunately conceded in the 15th minute after Franculino curled a strike that completely beat Stanley Nwabali, giving the home side an early advantage.
Nigeria enjoyed more possession at 58% and recorded more touches in the opposition box (9-4), but Guinea-Bissau had the better attacking threat. The Djurtus created the only big chance of the half and registered four shots compared to Nigeria’s three, while their expected goals (xG) stood at 0.37 against Nigeria’s 0.14.
Second half: Things went from bad to worse for Nigeria in the 66th minute after another brilliant strike from Guinea-Bissau, this time from Mama Baldé, doubled the home side’s advantage.
Despite having more possession, Nigeria struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and failed to register a big chance in the match. Guinea-Bissau continued to push forward as they looked to complete a dominant performance.
The Djurtus eventually added a third goal in stoppage time to seal a convincing 3-0 victory over the Super Eagles.
The defeat leaves Guinea-Bissau top of Group L with six points from two matches, maintaining a 100% winning record in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Nigeria remain second with three points after two matches.
