Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain suffered defeats on Friday night, while Liverpool recorded their first Premier League victory of the season.
Real Madrid fell to a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis, PSG were beaten 2-1 by Monaco, while Liverpool defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road.
Real Madrid and Betis played out a goalless first half, with both sides creating opportunities but failing to break the deadlock. The game remained level after the restart until Troy Parrott put Betis ahead in the 81st minute.
Real Madrid pushed for an equaliser and thought they had found it when Carlos Espí scored, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review. Kylian Mbappé then had the chance to rescue a point from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but Álvaro Valles saved his effort to secure the three points for Betis.
At the Parc des Princes, PSG took control of the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead after captain Marquinhos scored in the 31st minute.
Monaco responded strongly after the interval, with Flávio Nazinho equalising in the 58th minute before Stanis Idumbo completed the comeback with the winning goal in the 72nd minute. PSG could not find a response as Monaco held on for a 2-1 victory. Flashscore confirms the fixture and its final result.
Liverpool, meanwhile, needed only nine minutes to establish control against Ipswich. Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the sixth minute, before completing his brace three minutes later to put the Reds 2-0 ahead.
Both goals were assisted by Cody Gakpo, giving Liverpool a commanding advantage before the game had reached the 10-minute mark. Ipswich improved after the break and had periods of pressure, but Liverpool’s defence held firm as the Reds secured their first league victory of the campaign.
The results leave Monaco top of Ligue 1 with nine points, while PSG remain 12th with two points after three matches.
Real Madrid remain on nine points in LaLiga despite the defeat, while Liverpool move to five points following their first win of the Premier League campaign.
