The Federal Government of Nigeria, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has fulfilled its cash reward pledge to the Super Falcons following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, according to the National Sports Commission (NSC).
As previously reported by the Intercept Nigeria, the President had promised each player a cash reward of $100,000, while every coach and team official was to receive $50,000. During the team’s reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the players were also promised three-bedroom apartments and national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In December 2025, the Super Eagles also received documents confirming their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja or Lagos, allocated plots of land in Abuja and national honours. The benefits fulfilled President Tinubu’s reward promise following Nigeria’s second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, held in Côte d’Ivoire in 2024.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko confirmed that the President had fulfilled the cash reward commitment to the Super Falcons.
Dikko said the payment would encourage young Nigerians, particularly girls interested in football, to pursue sporting careers with confidence, knowing that their efforts and achievements would be recognised.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development towards delivering the promised rewards.
According to him, cooperation between the relevant ministries and the NSC played an important role in ensuring that the players and officials received the benefits approved by the President.
