Actor Jide Awobona of Nollywood has voiced reservations about kissing scenes in films.
After having to kiss an unidentified actress who had foul breath while filming, he voiced his concerns.
In an interview with Yanga FM, Awobona described the incident and voiced concerns about the health hazards of kissing cast members without conducting appropriate medical examinations.
He gave the following Pidgin English response when asked if he kisses in films:
“Yes, I have done it. But if you get that kind funny odor, I go japa oo. I no fit kiss you.”
Interviewer: “You don act with someone with mouth odor?”
The actor answered:
“Yes, I don act with somebody wey get mouth odor. And I go one place go wash my mouth. And the person con see me.
“I just dey pray make person no go contact something because I don tire,” the actor revealed.

In March 2025, Actor Daniel Etim-Effiong and his wife, Toyosi, shared their thoughts on the actor’s romantic kiss with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in a promotional video for a movie.
The video sparked a mixed reaction on social media in January. While some users praised the on-screen chemistry between Effiong and Ogunmola, others criticised the actor for allegedly “disrespecting his wife”.
Ogunmola responded to the backlash by clarifying that the promotional content was part of her contractual obligations as an actress.
She emphasised that the video was filmed in the presence of many people, including cameramen, and that Effiong was acting in his role as Adimchi, not as a husband.
In another podcast, Daniel Etim-Effiong asked his wife how she handled the controversy surrounding the kiss.
Toyosi revealed that she didn’t see the promotional video immediately and only found out about the controversy when she saw headlines checking on her mental health.
She said she took no offence to the kiss, explaining that she views her husband’s on-screen performances as acting.
