The Convener of the Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA) and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Youth Mentorship, as the National Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), 5th Republic.

Comrade Babayero emerged victorious at the 2026 National Convention of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria held in Abuja, polling an overwhelming 97 votes against 5 votes for his opponent — a landslide that reflects the overwhelming confidence, trust and acceptance he enjoys among Nigerian youths from across the 36 states of the federation.

As contained in the statement, “This victory is not just personal; it is a victory for unity, purposeful leadership, discipline, accountability and the collective aspiration of Nigerian youths for a stronger, more inclusive and more purposeful Youth Assembly.”

Iteveh describes Comrade Babayero as a tested youth leader, a bridge-builder and a committed advocate for youth empowerment, national cohesion and constructive engagement with government at all levels.

“On behalf of the Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA) and the youths of Delta State, I congratulate my brother and comrade, Umar Babayero, on this well-deserved victory. His emergence as Speaker of the 5th Republic of YAN is a testament to his capacity, humility and dedication to the youth cause. The landslide margin is a clear mandate — Nigerian youths have spoken loudly.”

“I have no doubt that under his leadership, YAN will be repositioned as a credible voice for Nigerian youths, a platform for mentorship, empowerment and national development, and a partner in building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”

Comrade Iteveh also commends the delegates, the Board of Trustees, the Convention Planning Committee, and the Director-General of the Babayero Campaign Council, Hon. Mustapha Obaje, for conducting a peaceful, transparent and democratic convention.

He further appreciates the Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, for his support for youth leadership, and calls on all stakeholders to rally behind the new leadership of YAN for the task ahead.

“The NDDA pledges its full support and collaboration with the new leadership of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria in advancing youth development, mentorship, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and peacebuilding across the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. Once again, congratulations to the National Speaker-Elect, Comrade Umar Babayero. The task of building a stronger YAN begins now.” The Statement read.
