Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress’s (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, has apologised for not allying with Peter Obi, the party’s flagbearer, before the 2023 general election.
According to Kwankwaso, the All Progressives Congress, or APC, might have lost the election if they had run on a united presidential ticket with Obi.
Speaking to party supporters at the 360 Event Center in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, on Saturday, he made the statements.
“I did not truly understand Peter Obi until now. Had I understood him better in 2023, we would have collaborated and ousted the All Progressives Congress from the presidency,” he said, drawing cheers from the audience.
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Kwankwaso had rejected proposals to run alongside Obi, arguing that he had more political experience and higher academic qualifications, including a PhD.
Kwankwaso described his alliance with Obi ahead of the 2027 general election as a turning point for national development.

He also disclosed that the NDC leadership had reached an agreement for him to head the Ministry of Education if the party wins the 2027 presidential election.
Former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, claims he has changed his mind and will back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Okowa revealed this while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign event in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday
Okowa emphasised that time has passed, pointing out that he was on another ticket in 2023.
Remember that Okowa was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I was in another ticket in 2023 but I have now seen the light. I have seen what Tinubu is doing. I have seen where Nigeria is going. I cannot stay in darkness when there is light,” Okowa said.
According to him, Tinubu has shown that he means well for Nigeria. He admitted that while the President has taken hard decisions, those decisions are beginning to yield results.
He said he joined the APC not because of personal gain, but because he wants Delta and Nigeria to move forward
“I am not here to deceive anybody. I have been in opposition before. I know what it is to be in opposition. But when you see the truth, you must follow the truth,” he added.
