As the first Nigerian musician to have a single song exceed one billion Spotify plays, Ckay has created history. His 2019 hit song Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah), which recently crossed 1 billion plays on the site, helped him reach the milestone.
Additionally, Ckay is the first African male solo musician to achieve this milestone.
Reacting to the achievement, the elated singer wrote via his X handle:
“First solo nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! thank you for streaming.”
Through his partnership with Drake on One Dance, which holds the Guinness World Record as the first song to reach 1 billion Spotify plays, Wizkid became the first African artist to join the Spotify 1 billion club in 2017.
However, Rema’s remix of his smash hit “Calm Down,” featuring American superstar Selena Gomez, is the first song by an African lead artist to reach 1 billion Spotify plays.
With her viral hit “Water,” South African singer Tyla became the first African female artist to join the Spotify 1 billion club.

According to reports, Abubakar Yakubu, the recently elected president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was detained after allegedly being involved in a tragic automobile accident in Surulere, Lagos.
In a hotly contested election, Yakubu defeated seasoned actress Rita Daniels 116 to 113, with three votes deemed invalid, to win the AGN leadership.
As the first Northern Nigerian to lead the Guild since its official registration in 1998—a role often occupied by Southern Nigerians—his appointment represents a significant turning point in the organisation’s history.
A pedestrian is said to have died in the Surulere incident, though specifics of the collision are still unknown.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Yakubu’s arrest or the circumstances of the crash.
This came a few weeks after Emeka Rollas, who claimed that Regina Daniels needs help, advised Rita to prioritize her daughter’s well-being rather than contesting the AGN elections.
