Famous Nigerian artist Davido has declared a new professional path that prioritises real African sounds over Western influences.
Davido expressed satisfaction with his accomplishments, including international performances and numerous Grammy nominations, in an interview with Eddie Kadi on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show.
Having previously found success with international sounds, he says he intends to concentrate on music that is authentic to his heritage.

Davido said, “This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”
Davido praised his South African fans, stating that 80% of the country’s population knows and loves his music.

He also highlighted his achievement of topping the South African radio charts with an Afrobeats song, noting it was a significant feat given the country’s music landscape is dominated by American and local South African music.
“I remember when I had the Number 1 song on radio in South Africa, and for you as an Afrobeat artist to get a No. 1 song in SA. Cause if you look at the top songs there, it’s American & South African music”, he said.
Davido lost out to South African star Tyla in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla defeated Nigerian celebrities Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr to win Best African Music Performance.
With her song Push 2 Start, Tyla won the prize ahead of Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love.
