Nigerian social activist VeryDarkMan has addressed the widespread perception that artist Davido helped his NGO and personal development.
After Davido brought VeryDarkMan to Lagos State in October 2023, the two grew close.
In a video, VeryDarkMan praised Davido for his royal treatment, saying,
“Let me take you guys on a stroll. Make una see the room wey OBO booked for me. VeryDarkMan in Lagos. Don’t play.”

However, VeryDarkMan reversed his earlier assertion, claiming that the long-standing public perception was for entertainment purposes, in a statement issued following their fallout almost three years after the link-up.
The influencer denied ever receiving any financial support from Davido, claiming that the singer did not pay for his hotel stay in Lagos or fund his trip. He also pointed out that Davido never donated to his non-profit.

He said in Pidgin English: “Any time wey I talk something around Davido and maybe some people wey dey around Davido record, people go say, ‘After all what Davido has done for you. Davido flew you to Lagos, Davido has contributed to your NGO,’ and all those type of things.
“Well, today make I just address una. You see that time I went to Lagos to meet Davido, na me pay for my flight ticket oo, na me pay for the hotel wey I lodge, but guess what, we just leave am like that for entertainment purposes. They said Davido contributed to your NGO. That’s not true. I never asked him to make any contribution. He was the one who said he go do something, and I never asked him. Ask David if I’ve ever collected N1,000 from him before since he knows me,” he stated.
This July, in response to allegations made by social media critic Martins Vincent, aka VeryDarkMan, that the government paid a ransom to free the kidnapped students and teachers.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has responded through Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade
In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, VDM claimed that although the government had paid a ransom to help free the victims, the kidnappers had refused to release them.
In response, the Information Commissioner said in a statement that the accusation was false and that it was the “handiwork of irresponsible bloggers.”
The commissioner further clarified that though the state and federal government are working to ensure the safe return of the victims abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of the state on May 15, no ransom has been paid as claimed by VDM.
