A fresh communal conflict between the residents of Umuobor-Akaeze and their Ogwor neighbours in the Ishiagu village, both in the Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has allegedly resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Numerous people, including men, women, and passersby, have died as a result of the local communal conflicts.
Community sources report that suspected attackers ambushed the disputed territory on Monday, killing a man and a woman.
The Intercept reported that two neighbouring communities have been at war for about five decades over a vast fertile land known as Elueke, with many lives lost and properties worth billions of naira destroyed.
Governor Francis Nwifuru was compelled by the circumstances to establish a committee to resolve the conflict and declare the contested territory a buffer zone.

Mr Nwoba Chika Nwoba, a social media critic, told The Intercept on Tuesday that he had written to the governor urging him to put an immediate end to the feud.
According to him, “I got information that these aged persons were killed in the fight between Ishiagu and Akaeze today in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State.
“I had written twice earlier that the governor, Francis Nwifuru, should do something urgently to bring this to a halt, but I’m not sure he has done anything obvious to end the feud.

“I’m still calling on the governor to do something to end this lest it becomes too difficult to handle.
“Every life matters, stakeholders of these two towns should join hands and get this unnecessary bloodshed quenched.”
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, on Tuesday, he said he had yet to receive a report of the recent killings in the area.
