One Million Two hundred Thousand and Five Hundred and Fourteen Students Passed their West African Examination Councils (WAEC) including Maths and English, the Examination body announced.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced the release of the 2026 Computer‑Based WASSCE results for school candidates.
Out of 1,950,726 candidates who sat the examination, 1,200,514 representing 61.54 percent obtained credits and above in at least five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
Head of WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, disclosed in Lagos that this figure reflects a 1.42 percent decrease compared to 2025. A total of 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination.
Among those who passed English and Mathematics, 558,883 were male candidates while 641,631 were female. Overall, 953,459 males and 997,267 females sat the exam.
Dr. Dangut revealed that 94.05 percent of results have been fully processed and released, while 5.95 percent remain under processing.
He added that 1,213 candidates with special needs registered, including visually challenged, hearing impaired, spastic, mentally challenged, and physically challenged students.
WAEC withheld results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent, due to examination malpractice. This marks a 1.11 percent decrease compared to 2025.
Dangut noted that cell phone use in exam halls and organized cheating remain persistent issues, with supervisors and invigilators caught aiding malpractice facing sanctions.
Highlighting innovations, Dangut explained that 2026 marked the second time WAEC conducted computer‑based WASSCE for school candidates.
Other measures included the Digital Examiner Mark System (DEMS) for faster processing, serialization of question papers to curb malpractice, and a new portal enabling candidates to generate e‑PINs for result checking.
Candidates can now apply for digital certificates within 48 hours of checking results online. Registration for the 2026 second series for private candidates is ongoing at N37,500, with walk‑in candidates allowed. WAEC past questions are also available for N5,200 per subject combination.
The examination, conducted between April 24 and June 19, 2026, was marked by 102,708 examiners across 88 venues. WAEC stated that results of candidates sponsored by indebted state governments will not be released until payments are settled.
