Aremu Musiliu, a former police officer who is suspected of killing Comfort Udoh in 2015, has been listed as wanted by the Tafawa Balewa Square High Court in Lagos.
After Comfort’s husband, Pastor Godwin Udoh of the Full Gospel Church of God, failed to extort N2,000 from him, Aremu allegedly shot Comfort in the head at the Ijegun Bus Stop on September 16, 2015.
Aremu and other cops stopped Comfort’s tricycle as she, her husband, and their four children—including an eleven-month-old baby—were making their way home from a church event.
According to Udoh, who was shot in the jaw and shoulder during the event, he begged the cops, explaining that they were broke.
Justice O.A. Taiwo of Court 26, Ikeja High Court, had previously criticised the DPP’s handling of the case, citing it as the reason for the bail. However, since securing a bail sum of N1 m with two sureties, Aremu has reportedly absconded and failed to appear in court.
The Intercept learnt on Thursday that the court’s declaration followed repeated failures of both the police and correctional authorities to produce Aremu in court, despite multiple summonses.

The prosecution then asked that Aremu be declared wanted.
“The defendant be and is hereby declared wanted by the Court for the offence of murder of one Comfort Godwin on 16 of September 2015, and the defendant is hereby ordered to be apprehended wherever he may be found and produced before the court,” said Justice S.I. Sonaike of Court 29, Criminal Division, in granting the application on April 9, 2025.
Taiwo Lambo, the DPP’s Assistant Chief Counsel, issued a legal advising paper stating that Aremu had admitted to shooting at the tricycle, killing Comfort and wounding her husband.

“In this instance, it is evident that Aremu intentionally killed and caused harm to the occupants of the tricycle.
“Aremu confessed to firing his rifle at the tricycle, which injured Udoh and killed Comfort,” the legal advisory read.
The suffering husband, Udoh, begged for public assistance to pursue justice for his wife and the family in a conversation with our correspondent.
“As I’m talking to you, I’m just managing where I’m living. They’ve given me a notice to quit because I don’t have the money to pay my rent, which expired in March. My children are out of school. I want fellow Nigerians to help me,” he said.
