The bodies of two men, one of whom was decapitated, were found by locals in the Idimu neighbourhood of Lagos State on Sunday.

The Intercept learnt that the murders took place late Saturday night, but the corpses weren’t found until Sunday morning along Oladun Road.

The bodies were still lying several meters apart when our correspondent arrived, drawing the attention of shocked locals and onlookers who gathered around them.

Speaking to The Intercept, a local named Lanre Ajao named one of the dead as Baba Oja.

He said, “We woke up to see their lifeless bodies on the road this morning. We cannot immediately identify the one with a severed head, but the other person is Baba Oja. He is very popular in this area.

“He was also known to always mingle with some boys who ran after flashy cars to collect money from the drivers around the Council bus stop. We still saw him yesterday controlling the traffic for some of the flashy cars.”

Jamiu Raji, another local, told The Intercept that the deaths’ nature suggested cult violence.

“We found out that the incident was not just a fight. It is related to a cult attack because of the way the two of them were killed. However, incidents like this are not common in this area. That is why people were shocked to see this,” he said.

Additionally, it was learnt that the bodies were still there for almost ten hours before police officers finally showed up.

Later, it was discovered that the second corpse belonged to a different community member, whose identity our correspondent was unable to confirm at the time of publication.

The families of the victims who died were forced to give up money before they could permit them to remove the bodies, according to another local who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons.

Calls to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin’s phone went unanswered, making it impossible to get in touch with the state police public relations officer. A text message sent to him has not been answered to as of the time this article was written.

The Intercept reported that no fewer than three persons were killed in separate cult clashes in the Mushin area of Lagos State and the Lantoro area of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital in February.

The cult clashes stemmed from renewed disputes between members of the Aiye Confraternity and the Eiye Confraternity
