Bello Amakwa, 30, has been taken into custody by the Kebbi State Police Command on suspicion of murder.
Auwal Umaru, a native of Katami village in Sokoto State’s Silami Local Government Area, is thought to have been slain by the young guy.
SP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer in Birnin Kebbi, made this revelation in a statement on Monday.
The statement said officers received an emergency call at about 8 a.m. on July 21 after a body was found lying in a pool of blood behind Birnin Kebbi’s Central Market.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Central Market, mobilised a team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene and evacuated the victim to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical practitioner certified the victim dead,” Abubakar explained.

He noted that Mr. Amakwa, a resident of Birnin Kebbi was later arrested after credible information.
“Following a credible lead, one Bello Amakwa, 30, of Birnin Kebbi was arrested in connection with the case,” he said.
“In the course of preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having stabbed the deceased with a knife on his neck as a result of a mere argument at about 2:30 a.m.,” Abubakar added.
He also attested to the fact that the police had found the knife used in the assault.
Speaking on the regrettable incident, CP Bello Sani, the state commissioner of police, cautioned young people to look for peaceful means of resolving conflicts and voiced concern over the trend of violent altercations.
The State Criminal inquiry Department has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the issue.
The Commissioner cautioned against enforcing the law.
