Representatives of the visually impaired who conducted a nonviolent demonstration in Lagos on Monday, calling for the prioritising of their wellbeing, met with Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Traffic was severely congested as a result of the demonstrators, who were from the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind, blocking the routes leading to Lagos Airport.
Hundreds of visually impaired individuals stopped Lagos’ airport lanes, calling on the federal government to give the care of those with disabilities top priority.
The demonstration caused traffic jams on the highways and interrupted operations at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport. To get to their aircraft, travellers had to trek a considerable distance.
Dolour, a man speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, claimed that many blind individuals had turned to begging in order to live.
According to Mr. Dolour, the circumstances were unsuitable.
The visually challenged needed to bring the government’s attention to the matter, he continued, adding that the school had been shuttered since 2023.
