The Obidient Movement has announced the intensification of its nationwide mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as supporters rally behind the presidential ambition of Peter Obi.
The movement said it remains confident that Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), possesses the leadership qualities needed to address Nigeria’s economic difficulties and governance challenges.
The group made the declaration on Sunday during the “FCT Obidient Movement Engagement Forum Towards 2027” held in Abuja with the theme, “Building Unity, Strengthening Democracy, Shaping the Future.”
The event brought together supporters, political stakeholders and advocates who discussed strategies for strengthening participation and building support ahead of the next election cycle.
National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said Nigeria’s current economic challenges were worsened by policy decisions that were not matched with sufficient measures to protect citizens.
Tanko specifically criticised the removal of fuel subsidy, arguing that the decision contributed to rising transportation costs, increased labour expenses and higher prices of goods and services.
According to him, many Nigerians are yet to experience the expected benefits of subsidy savings, as economic pressure continues to affect households across the country.
He urged government authorities to focus on investments that directly improve citizens’ quality of life, including affordable transportation, healthcare, education and other essential public services.
Tanko also called for a fairer society where Nigerians, regardless of background or social status, can access opportunities and basic amenities needed for a better standard of living.
Speaking at the forum, NDC chieftain Peter Ameh blamed Nigeria’s economic and infrastructure challenges on what he described as poor governance, corruption and ineffective management of public resources.
Ameh, a former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, said Nigeria has abundant human and natural resources but requires leaders with competence, vision and integrity to maximise its potential.
He criticised excessive government spending and called for greater accountability in the management of national resources to improve critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and security.
The former party official urged Nigerians, especially young people, to remain actively involved in democratic processes to promote accountability and responsible leadership.
Meanwhile, FCT Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Daniel Dumije, said the movement has encouraged more young Nigerians to participate in politics despite previous perceptions that politics was associated with dishonesty.
Dumije said the movement would continue promoting integrity, accountability and civic engagement as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He urged supporters to remain peaceful, organised and committed to achieving what he described as a “New Nigeria” through democratic participation.
Public policy strategist Sam Amadi advised members of the movement to remain united, strategic and focused as they expand their mobilisation efforts across the country.
Amadi emphasised the importance of vigilance in the electoral process, adding that sustained citizen participation could strengthen democracy and improve election outcomes.
The Obidient Movement said its mobilisation drive would continue as it seeks to build stronger support networks and encourage greater political involvement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
