Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira and former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué were in a Barcelona courtroom on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, over the custody of their two children, especially how often the two young boys should be flying across the Atlantic.
The singer, 49, is asking the court to change part of the visitation agreement she reached with Piqué, 39, after their split in 2022. Her proposal is simple. During shorter school breaks, Piqué would travel to Miami to see Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, instead of the boys flying to Barcelona.
Her representatives say the goal is to protect the children’s school, social life and daily routines. They argue that repeated long-haul trips and time changes can affect the boys’ emotional, physical and academic wellbeing. They also stress that the request is not meant to cut into Piqué’s time with his sons. Shakira’s team says the effort of traveling between the two cities should not fall only on the children.
The hearing took place at Barcelona’s Court of First Instance No. 18, which handles family cases. It is a review of the agreement approved in December 2022, not a new case. According to Piqué’s lawyer, Ramón Tamborero, the two sides kept negotiating until the last moment but could not reach a deal, so the matter went before the judge. Both Shakira and Piqué attended in person. She came in from Madrid, where her concert residency continues until October 12.
The couple announced their separation in June 2022 after more than a decade together. Shakira then moved to Miami with the boys, while Piqué stayed in Barcelona and still spends regular time with them each month and during school holidays.
