Musician Augustine Kelechi, better known by his stage name Tekno, has talked candidly about the stigma he experienced while dealing with serious vocal cord damage from acid reflux, which caused his career to plummet.
When Tekno was at the height of his popularity in 2018–2021, he sustained serious vocal cord damage that prevented him from singing and caused him to take a multi-year break, which halted his progress.
In a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Tekno recalled his ordeal. He claimed that during his battle with vocal cord disease, he “hated” music and was only forcing himself to make it occasionally due to his recording deal, but those around him called him “lazy” for slowing down the pace of his work.

Tekno, however, admitted that he initially kept his ailment secret even from close ones and team members.
He said this led to his team thinking he was being lazy about making music or performing during the period he was battling severe vocal cord damage.

The singer said, “Even the people closest to me were saying that ‘he is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform..’. I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal.”
Tekno said reading inspirational books made him heal emotionally and reconnect with music.
The majority of the songs on Davido’s upcoming sixth album, “ORIADÉ,” were recorded at home with his wife and kids, he disclosed.
The album will be released on July 31, which is also Davido’s 15th anniversary as a musician.
The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is David Adeleke, stated in an interview with Capital Xtra that the home environment necessitated a more subdued, personal creative approach.
Davido mentioned that the album’s approach was also influenced by creative sessions during a two-week stay at Coachella and that producers travelled from overseas to work directly with him.
