With less than two weeks ahead of the highly anticipated Osun State governorship election, the Ademola Adeleke Campaign Council has raised an alarm over an alleged clandestine plot aimed at arresting forty-six high-ranking leaders of the Accord Party to block them from participating in the upcoming ballots.
Addressing members of the press in Osogbo on Sunday, the Deputy Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, Kolapo Alimi, asserted that the political organization had intercepted a targeted list featuring names of opposition figures marked for imminent detention.
Alimi maintained that these individuals are scheduled to be picked up on fabricated allegations and subsequently moved out of the state to Abuja to neutralize their influence throughout the critical voting window.
Consequent upon these discoveries, Alimi aggressively petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to swiftly intervene by ordering the Osun State Police Command, the State Criminal Investigation Department, and visiting federal tactical detachments to halt the systemic intimidation and unlawful tracking of opposition elements.
He explicitly stated: “The Imole Campaign Council refuses to sit idly by while our democracy is dismantled by desperate politicians using public security forces.
We call on the Inspector-General of Police to immediately issue a firm directive to the Osun State Police Command, the SCID, and special squads from Abuja to cease the arbitrary arrest and harassment of opposition leaders, including the listed individuals allegedly marked for transfer to Abuja.”
Further expanding its grievances, the executive campaign council strongly rebuked the recent detention of an active member in Ikire, Mr. Taofeek Akinyemi, labeling the entire operational maneuver as an entirely partisan vendetta.
According to detailed timelines presented by the council, Akinyemi was picked up by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department shortly after uploading a social media broadcast where he detailed a violent assault against his person and openly named his attackers.
The political body further disclosed that Akinyemi had miraculously escaped a targeted shooting inside his commercial storefront in Ikire weeks prior, an incident that was formally documented with the local police, the Department of State Services, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police governing Zone 11.
The campaign organization fiercely contended that the sudden turnaround by security operatives essentially converted a legitimate crime victim into a criminal defendant overnight without justifiable legal backing.
Characterizing the continuous detention as a calculated political maneuver engineered to suppress opposition voices rather than an authentic law enforcement operation, the campaign council demanded Akinyemi’s unconditional release, insisting that if any actionable evidence existed against him, he should be formally arraigned before a recognized court of competent jurisdiction.
