The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Nentawe Yilwatda as its national chairman to replace Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned recently.
Yilwatda was appointed on Thursday during the ongoing 14th national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling party at the State House, Abuja.
Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state and chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, moved the motion to appoint Yilwatda, who until now was the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction.
Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the House of Representatives, seconded the motion.
The new chairman was sworn in at 2:52 pm.
Yilwatda’s appointment was ratified by the NEC in what is termed as a “consensus-driven decision” aimed at uniting the party ahead of key political activities, including off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Edo, and Ondo states.
President Bola Tinubu presided over the NEC meeting, which was attended by key stakeholders, including Vice=President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC governors, former Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo and members of the national working committee (NWC).
