Another celebrity fight witnessed on October 1 was between Carter Efe and Speed Darlington. Carter Efe remains the man to beat in Nigerian celebrity boxing after dominating rapper Speed Darlington at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The four-round contest ended late on Thursday, October 1, with Efe walking away with the victory and retaining his celebrity boxing title.
The two had been exchanging words in the build-up to the fight. Efe questioned why Speed Darlington wanted to fight him after the rapper had previously lost to Portable. He said Speed Darlington did not belong in the ring with him and promised to beat him. Speed Darlington responded by claiming the belt Efe had won from Portable.
Just as the name of the event suggests, the build-up got out of hand. At the press conference, Speed Darlington kicked a birthday cake meant for Efe to the ground, while bouncers had to separate the two men as they nearly came to blows. Firecrackers set off by Efe’s entourage later sparked a brief fire, which was quickly put out with extinguishers.
In the ring, Efe dominated Speed Darlington throughout the four-round contest and won by technical knockout after his opponent stopped moving. The victory extended Efe’s unbeaten run in the Chaos in the Ring celebrity boxing series.
After the fight, Carter, who granted an interview, said he was done with local contests and wanted to take his boxing career international. He added that he was now looking to fight Floyd Mayweather next.
