Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka suffered an early exit from the US Open mixed doubles championship after losing to Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten in the opening round.
The top-seeded pair made a strong start at Arthur Ashe Stadium, winning the opening set 4-1. However, Siniakova and Patten responded strongly to take the second set 4-2 before dominating the deciding 10-point match tiebreak 10-2.
The defeat ended the campaign of Djokovic and Sabalenka, who had teamed up for the mixed doubles competition as two of the biggest names in the singles game.
Siniakova and Patten, who earned their place in the main draw through qualifying, advanced to the quarter-finals following their impressive victory over the No. 1 seeds.
However, their run eventually came to an end in the quarter-finals, where they were beaten by Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils 5-4, 4-5, [10-8].
The 2026 US Open mixed doubles event is being staged under a revamped format, with matches featuring first-to-four-game sets, no-ad scoring and a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a traditional deciding set
