Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has said he has nothing against Jordan Henderson despite believing that the former Liverpool captain may never truly become one of them.
During the Obi One Podcast, Mikel acknowledged Henderson’s connection with Liverpool but insisted that the midfielder deserves the support of Chelsea supporters as he represents the London club.
“I have nothing against Henderson. He played for Liverpool, he’s a Liverpool legend. I don’t think he will ever be ‘one of us’, but he is playing for us right now and we have to support him. He’s doing the job,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.
Henderson, 36, made a memorable home debut for Chelsea on Saturday, October 10, scoring twice and providing an assist in the club’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.
The England international opened the scoring with a superb strike from outside the box before setting up Morgan Rogers for Chelsea’s second goal.
He completed his brace in the second half with a stunning free-kick to cap an impressive individual display.
Joao Pedro also scored twice as Chelsea produced a convincing performance in front of their home supporters.
Alonso signed Henderson and former Brighton forward Danny Welbeck to bring experience into the squad and provide more depth, a move that has already seen the two players add their wealth of Premier League experience to the team.
