Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala collapsed again during the club’s friendly against FC Heidenheim, just days after a similar incident during their friendly against RB Leipzig.
Musiala has since released a statement reassuring fans that he is doing well. He revealed that he has been diagnosed with temporary, brief and treatable absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.
The 23-year-old also said he is receiving excellent medical care and, following consultation with neurologists, has been cleared to continue playing football.
“First things first – I’m doing well!! I understand that many of you are worried.
I want to put those worries to rest today and explain the situation:
I have been diagnosed with temporary, brief, yet highly treatable absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.
These are what led to the recent incidents, such as the match against Leipzig and the one just now in Heidenheim…
I am receiving excellent medical care for this and remain very optimistic.”
Absence seizures are brief episodes caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which can temporarily affect awareness and, in some cases, cause a person to lose muscle control and collapse. While the episodes can appear alarming, Musiala has said doctors have assured him that his condition is treatable and poses no further health risk.
