The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a six-man fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s poor run in international competitions, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Falcons’ failure adds to a worrying run across Nigeria’s major national teams, as the Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and Super Eagles have also failed to make it to the World Cup at their respective levels.
In its words, the NFF said:
“The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s poor run in international competitions, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
The Golden Eaglets missed out on the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Flying Eagles failed to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, while the Super Eagles will also miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA confirmed Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 tournament after their play-off defeat to DR Congo.
The NFF’s fact-finding committee is chaired by Ambassador Fanny Amun, with former Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles international Mutiu Adepoju and Dr Alex Mana as members. Mallam Nasir Sa’idu serves as secretary.
Amun brings extensive national-team experience, having coached Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 teams and led the Golden Eaglets to the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup title. Oparanozie, meanwhile, is a former Super Falcons captain who represented Nigeria at four FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments before retiring in 2023.
