Afeez ‘Owo’ Abiodun, the Nigerian Yoruba movie actor, has revealed how social media almost ruined his marriage.
The actor married his colleague Mide Martins in 2003, and the couple has two daughters.
Speaking in an interview on Behind The Fame, Abiodun explained that the fight was “our first and last fight as a couple”.
Afeez Owo clarified that the incident began as a simple misunderstanding, which he admitted to handling poorly due to anger. He added that the situation, however, escalated dramatically when it spilt onto social media.
“The rumour of us splitting went viral. I think that time was the first and last fight we had as a couple. It was a lot, but we reconciled,” he said.

“That fight was just a misunderstanding. I was angry and didn’t handle it well. Later, I thought to myself, is this really how I want to let go of my marriage?
“Social media made the matter escalate even more. It was an issue we should have resolved ourselves, but it got online, and rumours started spreading that I had abandoned my family.
“The truth was that I only went to a hotel for two days because I was angry. When I saw that rumour on social media, I even decided to stay away for more days since I was already accused of leaving home. Eventually, she came to apologise, and we reconciled.”

Abiodun expressed admiration for his wife, highlighting the deep respect that forms the foundation of their relationship. He praised Mide as the one person whose influence he unquestionably accepts.
“She is the only person who talks to me, and I listen. I respect my wife a lot, and she is the only person who can control me,” he added.
“Mide is among the few people I respect enough to listen to. When she tells me something, I don’t argue.”
