Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could miss Nigeria’s AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania this November after the Nigerian was left out of Galatasaray’s squad for their league game against Amed S.F. tomorrow.
According to Galatasaray, Osimhen sustained a strain in his left knee during the UEFA Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart and will undergo surgery tomorrow.
“Victor Osimhen has been scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery tomorrow at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, to be performed by the club’s doctor, Yener İnce.
The Galatasaray striker sustained a strain in his left knee during the UEFA Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart. Subsequent MRI scans revealed a loose fragment in the knee.
As a result, Osimhen has been withdrawn from the squad for tomorrow’s match against Amed S.F.”
The club has not yet confirmed how long the striker will be sidelined, but indications suggest that Osimhen may not be rushed back for international duties, even if his recovery progresses faster than expected.
Osimhen missed the Super Eagles’ previous two AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in September due to injury. Nigeria struggled to beat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo and lost to Guinea-Bissau by a disgraceful 3-0, showing how significantly the team had missed one of its important players.
The Super Eagles will resume matchdays three and four of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania in a double-header. Tanzania will first visit Nigeria on November 13 before the Super Eagles travel to Tanzania for the return leg on the 17th.
Nigeria sit in second place behind Guinea-Bissau in Group L of the qualifiers table after earning just three points from two games.
