Due to his role in the February 2023 attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub, American musician Chris Brown was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence in the UK.
Brown, 37, entered a guilty plea to one count of affray in July and was sentenced on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court.
The musician will not go to jail right away because the sentence was suspended for a full year, but he may go to jail if he violates the suspension’s conditions.
The case stemmed from an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, central London, where Brown struck Diaw with a glass tequila bottle, hitting him twice on the head. The victim sustained head and knee injuries.

Prosecutors told the court that CCTV footage captured the incident, which also involved Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who joined the attack.
Akinlolu, 40, was also sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in costs.

During the sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the attack as dangerous, warning that striking someone on the head with a glass bottle could have caused more serious injuries.
The judge also stressed that commercial success would not attract preferential treatment in court.
Brown was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after returning to the UK for a concert, more than two years after the incident. He had initially faced charges including assault and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm before pleading guilty to affray, leading prosecutors to drop the other charges.
The sentencing brings the criminal proceedings over the nightclub incident to a conclusion, with Brown avoiding immediate imprisonment.
In August 2025, Afrobeats artist Davido revealed that American R&B star Chris Brown significantly impacted his career while explaining how they met.
The ‘Blow My Mind’ hitmaker said his career progressed after he met Breezy in 2018.
Davido shared the story of his first encounter with Chris Brown in a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast.
He said,
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life. I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends.
“The friend called me one day on Facetime and my song was playing at the background, I asked where he was and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song.
“He gave Chris Brown the phone, that was the first time we had a conversation. A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends.”
