Actress Judy Austin has brought a lawsuit against veteran actress Rita Edochie seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged defamatory remarks
In a post on her verified Instagram, Austin revealed the situation and included a copy of a writ of summons that had been issued against Edochie.
Edochie was named as the defendant and Austin as the claimant in the lawsuit.
Austin is requesting N1 billion in general damages for claimed defamation in the writ.
“The sum of N1,000,000,000.00 (one billion naira) only, as general damages for defamation,” the court document stated.
She is also asking the court to order Edochie to publish a full, unreserved retraction and apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and on her social media platforms.
In addition, the claimant is requesting a permanent injunction to prevent Edochie, her agents, and her privies from publishing or disseminating the purportedly defamatory remarks about her.
Additionally, Austin is requesting that the court order Edochie to take down the purportedly defamatory remarks from all of her websites.

In addition, she is requesting 10% post-judgment interest on the judgement amount until it is paid in full, as well as N50 million for the expense of prosecuting the lawsuit.
According to the court record, Anozie Obinnaya Obi, SAN, and other attorneys representing Austin filed the lawsuit.
Additionally, after the writ is served to Edochie, she must appear in court within the time frame specified in the petition.
Austin accompanied the post with the words, “Enough is enough!”
The writ also requires Edochie to appear in court within the period stated in the document after it is served on her.
In June, Nollywood star Yul Edochie addressed accusations from Judy Austin’s ex-husband, Emmanuel Obasi, that he kept him from seeing his kids.
On Friday, Yul responded to the charge on social media.
“Some of my fans have reached out to me, saying, ‘pls allow him to see his children’.
“I have never stopped anybody from seeing his children.
“In this era of social media, people prefer chasing clout and chasing social media money with my name, rather than doing the right thing.
“Tell him to call his ex-wife; if he wants to see or take his children, let them discuss it. He has her number. It has nothing to do with me.”
