Social media users have condemned Fuji singer Taye Currency’s performance at Oba Rashidi Ladoja’s coronation ceremony as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The words of the Fuji musician, “were la fi n wo were,” which means “we used insanity to cure insanity,” were judged inappropriate for the royal event.
Many Nigerians expressed their indignation on social media, calling the performance an “embarrassment” to the indigenous people of Ibadan and casting doubt on the choice to bring Taye Currency.
President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and a number of traditional leaders were among the dignitaries who attended the Olubadan coronation ceremony, which was intended to be a time of celebration and cultural pride.

However, Taye Currency’s lyrics overshadowed the occasion, with many expressing disappointment and embarrassment online.
Some critics argued that the organisers were to blame for inviting Taye Currency, stating that other Fuji stars like Saheed Osupa, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (K1), or Malaika would have delivered a more fitting performance.
Oba Adetokunbo Tejuosho, the Olu of Kemta Orile in Ogun State, also condemned Taye Currency’s performance, describing it as “disgusting and uncultured” and questioning the choice of the musician for the event.

In April, Taye Currency revealed that he lost ₦10 million to Crypto Bridge Exchange, CBEX, the recently crashed Ponzi scheme.
The singer recounted his ordeal during a stage performance in a viral video circulating on social media.
He explained that he was convinced to invest in the scheme by some of his close associates. He called out the said associates by name as he placed a heavy curse on them.
Taye Currency noted that he only succumbed to their persuasion on April 1, barely two weeks before the scheme crashed and investors’ money on the platform disappeared.
