Nigerian music video director TG Omori, says a minimum-wage worker would find it difficult to pay for even one dialysis session.
Omori made this statement as he opened up about the expense of his renal failure treatment.
In a recent interview that was broadcast on the Afropolitan podcast on September 23, 2026, Omori revealed the information about his struggle with kidney failure and the cost of his care while he awaited a transplant.
He claimed that while he paid between N150,000 and N200,000 at a private clinic, a dialysis session at some institutions costs between N50,000 and N70,000.
According to him, patients may require three sessions weekly, taking the cost to between N500,000 and N600,000 every week.
“So, a minimum-wage person is dead already on one session,” Omori said.
He estimated that continuing dialysis for about a year while waiting for a transplant could cost as much as N31 million, excluding additional tests, medication and possible complications.
Omori said the financial burden could also overwhelm someone earning N1 million monthly.
“So, automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, it can’t serve you,” he said.

He added that the experience changed his understanding of the importance of having money and financial support during a serious illness.
“Even though money can’t buy happiness, money can still buy some time,” Omori said.

During a capacity-building workshop for labour correspondents on Tuesday in Abuja, Dr Kamil Shoretire, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, made this revelation.
Shoretire affirmed that discussions were in progress to establish a formal date for talks.
“We are yet to announce the timetable for that, but background discussions are already ongoing.
“When it’s time to get the press involved in what has been proposed and what is being negotiated, it will be revealed to you,” he said.
