The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has started paying June and July upkeep allowances to eligible student beneficiaries nationwide.
The payment marks the latest phase of the Federal Government’s student loan programme, providing monthly financial support to students in tertiary institutions.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) confirmed the development on Friday, while several beneficiaries shared payment alerts on X as evidence that the disbursement had begun.
NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, assured students that all outstanding upkeep allowance backlogs would be cleared as payments continue across the country.
He also appealed to beneficiaries who had not yet received their allowances to remain patient, explaining that the disbursement process is being carried out in batches.
Babatunde reiterated that no eligible Nigerian student would be left behind in the payment process, describing the disbursement as part of NANS’ commitment to protecting students’ welfare.
He advised students who were still awaiting payment not to panic, noting that the phased payment system would ensure every verified beneficiary receives the approved allowance.
The announcement followed weeks of complaints from students over delays in receiving their monthly upkeep allowances under the Federal Government’s student loan initiative.
Soon after the announcement, several students posted screenshots of successful credit alerts on X, confirming receipt of the June and July allowances.
The upkeep allowance forms part of the broader NELFUND student loan scheme, which supports eligible tertiary institution students through monthly stipends while tuition fees are paid directly to their schools.
