The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a man in Edo State, Odigie Moses, over an alleged sextortion scheme involving an Indian woman.
The suspect, who reportedly presented himself as a spiritualist with healing powers, was apprehended in Ekpoma, Edo State, the EFCC confirmed in a statement shared on Friday.
According to the anti-graft agency, Moses allegedly connected with the woman on Zelle after she sought spiritual intervention for what she described as life-threatening challenges. The self-acclaimed spiritualist is accused of sextorting $1,100 (One Thousand, One Hundred Dollars) from his victim.
The EFCC disclosed details of the case via its official X handle, @officialEFCC, stating that the suspect convinced the woman to participate in a spiritual bath while secretly recording the session without her consent.
“The suspect subsequently deceived her into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded live without her permission, and thereafter blackmailed her to send him money, else he would make the video public,” the EFCC said.
The agency added that the woman paid $1,100 to prevent the alleged release of the recording. Investigations are ongoing, and the commission confirmed that Moses would be charged to court upon conclusion of the inquiry.
