Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that he did not own a personal residence during his eight-year tenure as governor.
Aregbesola, who currently serves as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made this known in a video message to supporters that surfaced online on Thursday.
He disclosed that he resided in a friend’s house located in the Amuta area of Ilesa throughout his time in office. He also challenged anyone with evidence to the contrary to come forward and disprove his claim.
“I am the first governor in Nigeria to serve two terms without owning a house. I lived in my friend’s house for eight years in my own fatherland. If anyone believes I am lying, let them present the house I own,” he said in the video.
Aregbesola was governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018. He later went on to serve as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is now leading the ADC’s governorship campaign in Osun State, following the party’s official campaign launch in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.
