Nollywood actress Blessing Onwukwe revealed that she received almost N1 million for her part in the second instalment of the popular Nollywood movie “Monica.”
The actress, who is well-known for playing the contentious “Mama Monica,” stated on Yanga FM that her pay was commensurate with the film’s success.
She acknowledged that she made more than N1 million from “Monica 2,” but she did not provide a precise amount.
“Monica passed one million. It passed the one-million mark for Monica II. I don’t want to call any other amount, but it’s more than one million,” she said.
Onwukwe explained that she was unexpectedly approached for the role and spent time developing a backstory for the character before production began.
She said the preparation helped her deliver the emotionally intense performance that has drawn widespread attention online.

“I started thinking about how I was going to bring the character to life. I had to create a background story for her,” she explained.
‘Monica’, starring Uche Montana, has become one of Nollywood’s biggest releases of 2026, amassing millions of views on YouTube.
The film centres on family struggles and the burden of being a firstborn daughter, with Onwukwe’s depiction of the manipulative mother figure earning particular praise from audiences.
In March, Nollywood actress Uche Montana openly discussed how her celebrity has affected her romantic life, pointing out that it may deter some potential suitors.
Montana stated that it would take “a special kind of man” to approach her for a relationship and accept her for who she is in a recent interview with the Uncut Xtra podcast.
However, she expressed her gratitude for her celebrity, emphasising that it brought her comfort and wealth.
“It is going to take a special kind of man to have all of me. It is going to take a very special kind of man. Fame has done amazing things for me. I can’t take that away.
“It might not make dating very easy, but being able to provide for my family and live comfortably is a big win.
“So, a man who feels intimidated by my fame can’t even be in the conversation of having a relationship with me. Fame is not supposed to make love difficult but it might because of the kind of world that we are in,” she said
