President Bola Tinubu on Thursday declared that Nigeria’s economy has stabilised following the implementation of his administration’s economic reforms.

He said the reforms have placed the country on the path to what he described as a “golden era” of democratic growth and prosperity.

The President made the remarks while receiving a delegation of Northeast stakeholders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation was led by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.

It included governors, deputy governors, traditional rulers, ministers, lawmakers, former Service Chiefs and elder statesmen from the Northeast.

President Tinubu attributed the progress recorded under his administration to the cooperation and commitment of state governments.

He commended governors across the country for supporting the implementation of key economic reforms.

The President urged them to sustain the momentum and ensure Nigerians understand the direction of the government’s economic policies.

He said citizens should also benefit directly from the gains of the ongoing reforms.

According to Tinubu, Nigerians are seeking stability, improved welfare and a better standard of living.

The President maintained that the economy has already become more stable.

He therefore encouraged political leaders to continue promoting confidence in the country’s economic future.

Tinubu also stressed the need for stronger collaboration in tackling terrorism and banditry across the Northeast.

He said national unity remains critical in overcoming security challenges.

The President noted that cooperation among governments has strengthened the country’s response to insecurity.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and promoting peace.

Tinubu also spoke on pension payments, saying his administration is clearing outstanding obligations owed to pensioners.

He criticised previous government decisions that, according to him, failed to adequately protect pensioners’ interests.

The President pledged to continue working towards democratic stability and national prosperity.

He assured the delegation that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through unity and good leadership.

Tinubu thanked traditional rulers and respected leaders from the Northeast for their continued support.

He particularly acknowledged the Shehu of Borno, HRH Umar Garbai Al-Kanemi, for his counsel before the 2023 presidential election.

The President also recognised Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as a political mentor.

He credited Kingibe with contributing to his early political development during the Social Democratic Party era.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Governor Babagana Zulum described the visit as an expression of appreciation to the President.

He thanked Tinubu for re-nominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Zulum reaffirmed the Northeast’s commitment to supporting the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

He pledged to mobilise grassroots support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor also praised ongoing infrastructure projects in the Northeast, including the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Expressway and rehabilitation efforts for internally displaced persons.

Ambassador Babagana Kingibe concluded by reaffirming the region’s support for President Tinubu, expressing confidence that continued economic reforms would strengthen Nigeria’s democratic and economic future.
