Nigerians visiting the US are advised by the US Mission in Nigeria to strictly comply with immigration laws and the terms of their visas, as any infraction could adversely affect their ability to travel in the future.
The mission cautioned visitors, employees, and students to adhere to the conditions and duration of their authorised stay in the United States in a statement released on Monday via its official X feed.
“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do – it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travellers,” the Mission stated.
It further reminded visa holders to always adhere to their approved length of stay and ensure that their travel documents remain valid throughout their visit.
“Whether you’re studying, working, or visiting the United States, always honour the terms of your visa,” it said.
“Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorised. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams.”
The Mission added that compliance with immigration rules benefits both travellers and the host country, noting that adherence helps maintain trust in the visa system.
“When you respect the process, everyone wins,” it said.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), in Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Mohammed Umar, in a short ruling, ordered Sowore to be kept in the correctional centre pending the hearing and determination of his motion for stay of the order for revocation of his bail and bench warrant.
Justice Umar also denied Sowore’s earlier plea seeking the judge’s recusal from the case on the ground of alleged bias.
The judge then deferred the proceedings until June 24 to hear the application for a stay.
