The Nigerian hurdler, who is a former world record holder and world champion, is set to compete at StoneX Stadium in Barnet as Athlos makes its London debut.
Athlos is a professional women-only track and field series created by Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams. The inaugural edition was held at Icahn Stadium in New York in September 2024.
The series was initially scheduled to expand to two meetings in 2026, with London hosting the first event before another competition in New York. However, the New York edition, which was scheduled for October 2, has since been cancelled.
Amusan was confirmed for the London meeting in August and will line up against some of the leading names in the women’s 100m hurdles.
World record holder and Olympic champion Masai Russell was also initially announced for the competition but withdrew earlier this week, shortly after winning the Diamond League and the $150,000 World Ultimate Championship.
Amusan herself finished second behind Russell in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Ultimate Championships in Budapest, clocking 12.34 seconds, while Charlton finished fourth in 12.40 and Megan Simmonds fifth in 12.42.
Other athletes expected to compete in the Athlos London hurdles race include USA’s Alaysha Johnson and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds.
Beyond the competition itself, Athlos offers significant financial incentives, with athletes able to earn up to $65,000 for winning an individual event. Overall champions will also receive an additional $25,000.
Athletes competing in the series are also being offered equity in the league, giving them the opportunity to benefit from its future growth.
The event also features a specially designed Athlos crown created by Tiffany & Co., adding another distinction to the prizes available to the winners.
Amusan remains one of Nigeria’s leading track and field stars. World Athletics lists her as a former world record holder, world champion and three-time Diamond League Final winner. Her world-record performance of 12.12 seconds was set in the 100m hurdles semi-final at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
