Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are reportedly set to share a purse worth close to $200m (£151m) when they meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.
According to BBC Sport, the two British heavyweights are expected to share the huge purse, although the exact amount each fighter will receive has not been officially confirmed.
The fight was announced for Cardiff after discussions over the venue, with New York’s Madison Square Garden also considered during negotiations.
According to The Independent, Joshua agreed to forgo more than £10m in earnings to ensure the fight took place in the UK. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, said Joshua accepted the reduction after efforts to stage the contest in the United States.
Hearn explained that Joshua was willing to sacrifice the money because he wanted the fight to take place on home soil.
The Principality Stadium was eventually selected as the venue for the December 11 showdown. The stadium’s retractable roof was a factor in its selection.
Ticket demand has been substantial, with around 80,000 tickets selling out within an hour of going on sale on October 9. Prices ranged from £88.50 to £13,128, including fees. More than 500,000 people were reportedly in the Ticketmaster queue.
UFC chief Dana White has also discussed the expected gate revenue, saying the event was scaled at around $34m and describing it as a potential British record.
The fight will be broadcast globally on Netflix, with subscribers not required to pay an additional fee to watch it.
The ring walks are expected around 1am on December 12, with the timing accommodating viewers in the United States.
Fury has also spoken about his plans beyond the fight. In comments reported by Sky Sports, he described the contest as Joshua’s “final payday” but said he intended to continue boxing himself.
