Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan delivered another statement performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, storming to victory in her women’s 100m hurdles heat with a blistering time of 12.19 seconds on Thursday.
The reigning African record holder crossed the finish line comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie, who clocked 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill finished third in 12.69 seconds.
Amusan’s time came with a +3.8 m/s tailwind, which is above the maximum legal wind limit of +2.0 m/s for record purposes. As a result, the performance will not count as a Games record or any official record despite being the fastest time recorded across the heats.
The Nigerian looked in complete control from the start, displaying her trademark speed between the hurdles before easing through the closing metres to secure automatic qualification for the final.
The performance will boost confidence for Amusan as she continues her quest for another major international title. She heads into the final as one of the favourites after producing the quickest time of the opening round.
Amusan, who remains one of Africa’s greatest hurdlers, has consistently represented Nigeria on the global stage, winning medals at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and African Championships. Her latest performance underlines her readiness to challenge for another gold medal in Glasgow.
The women’s 100m hurdles final is expected to be one of the highlights of the athletics programme, with Amusan aiming to convert her impressive heat performance into another Commonwealth Games title.
