Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille have confirmed the departure of English forward Mason Greenwood after reaching a mutual agreement to end his spell at the club before the expiration of his contract.
In a statement, Marseille said:
“This decision is the result of a joint reflection between the player and the club, who have mutually agreed to bring their partnership to an end.”
“Olympique de Marseille thanks Mason Greenwood for his two seasons in Olympian colours and wishes him the very best for the next chapter of his career.”
Greenwood joined Marseille in the summer of 2024 and spent two seasons with the French club, establishing himself as one of their standout performers.
During his first campaign, he made 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing six assists.
He enjoyed another impressive season in 2025–26, featuring in 45 matches in all competitions while registering 26 goals and 11 assists. He also finished among the top three scorers in Ligue 1.
Greenwood’s performances earned him a nomination for the 2025–26 UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year award. He was shortlisted alongside Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint-Germain), Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain), Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain), and Florian Thauvin (Lens).
Dembélé eventually won the award after an outstanding campaign and later went on to claim the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
