NFF Sacks Super Falcons Technical CreThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in the late hours of Monday, announced that members of the Super Falcons’ technical crew had been asked to step down from their positions with immediate effect.
The federation made the announcement in a short statement posted on its official X account.
The statement read:
«“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect.”»
The NFF did not disclose further reasons for the decision.
The development comes just hours after The Intercept reported that the National Sports Commission (NSC) had put the September 27 NFF elective congress on hold and was set to investigate the country’s recent football setbacks.
The NSC is also reportedly considering the appointment of a Normalisation Committee to oversee the NFF as investigations into the federation’s electoral process continue.
The latest development comes after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco but lost 1–0 to Cameroon before suffering a 2–1 defeat to South Africa in the World Cup qualification play-off.
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2027 tournament means the Super Falcons will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the competition began in 1991.
The decision also comes days after the NFF announced the inauguration of a Fact-finding Committee to investigate Nigeria’s recent football setbacks following the Super Falcons’ failure to secure qualification for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons’ setback adds to growing concerns over Nigeria’s recent struggles at international level under the Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF administration. The Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to DR Congo on penalties in the African play-off.
