Jacksonville State University men’s basketball player Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega has been arrested in the United States over a rape allegation, prompting the university to suspend him from all team activities.
Adegboyega, a 21-year-old Nigerian national, was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail in Alabama while awaiting a bond hearing, according to court records. Jail documents also indicate that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a hold on him.
Authorities allege that the incident occurred on Wednesday. According to the arrest warrant, Adegboyega is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with the complainant through forcible compulsion, an offence classified as first-degree rape under Alabama law.
Following his arrest, Jacksonville State confirmed that the player has been suspended from the men’s basketball programme pending the outcome of the legal process.
The 7-foot centre joined Jacksonville State ahead of the 2026–27 season after announcing his commitment to the school in May on his Instagram page.
Before moving to Jacksonville State, Adegboyega spent the 2025–26 campaign at California Baptist University. He had earlier played two seasons at the University of South Florida after initially signing with Kennesaw State in 2022, where he did not feature in any official game. He also attended Grand View Christian High School in Des Moines, Iowa.
Across his college basketball career, Adegboyega has appeared in 27 games, making five starts. He has averaged 0.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
The rape charge remains an allegation, and under the law, Adegboyega is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
