The Super Falcons of Nigeria have begun their 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifying campaign with a perfect start after securing a 2-0 victory over Comoros at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The game ended goalless in the first half, with the Nigerian women posing more of an attacking threat. However, the Falcons broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half through full-back Michelle Alozie.
In the 60th minute, the Nigerian side doubled their lead through Uchenna Kanu’s effort to seal a 2-0 victory and a clean sheet.
The Super Falcons will now prepare for the return leg scheduled for October 13, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. According to reports by Punch and Vanguard, both legs are being played in Nigeria because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for the fixture.
Nigeria will be looking to secure qualification for the next round as they begin their quest for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Falcons must progress through four rounds of two-legged ties to secure one of Africa’s two available places in the women’s football tournament.
The victory comes at an important time for the Super Falcons following their disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Nigeria lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals before suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the World Cup qualification play-off, missing out on the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the team’s history.
