The all British heavyweight showdown faces fresh setback as Fury turns his attention to Oleksandr Usyk.
The long awaited heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is off again, with Fury turning his attention to a potential trilogy fight against Oleksandr Usyk in November.
Fury announced on Monday, September 7, that the proposed fight with Joshua had collapsed following continued disagreements over the venue.
Fury said:
“AJ has st his pants again, yet again. After 11 years he’s finally st his pants yet again.”
Let’s run it back in November. The ball is now in your court.”
The blockbuster bout had been targeted for November, but negotiations have stalled over where the fight should take place. Joshua’s camp has pushed for the contest to be staged in the United Kingdom, while Madison Square Garden in New York has been discussed as an alternative venue.
Following the breakdown in negotiations, Fury called out Usyk for a third meeting and proposed November for the potential trilogy.
Fury and Usyk have already shared the ring twice, with the Ukrainian winning both encounters in 2024.
Despite Fury’s announcement, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has disputed the idea that the fight has been formally cancelled. Hearn maintains that Joshua has a legally binding agreement to face Fury and says efforts to make the fight happen are continuing.
The latest development therefore leaves the Joshua-Fury fight in serious doubt, while Fury’s proposed third meeting with Usyk is yet to be confirmed.
For now, the long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash has suffered another major setback, with the venue dispute standing between the two sides.
