Manchester United have announced the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer after his contract with Leeds United expired at the end of the 2025–26 season. The club confirmed that the Wales international has signed a contract until June 2028, with the option to extend for a further year.
The 35-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having spent his entire professional career in English football. Darlow began his career at Aston Villa before enjoying spells at Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Leeds United and other teams in the lower leagues. He established himself as Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper last season. Across his career, Darlow has made 279 senior appearances, including 74 in the Premier League.
Speaking after completing the move, Darlow said:
“I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United. I’m joining an excellent group of goalkeepers, and I’m really looking forward to us all pushing each other to ensure that we maintain the highest standards this club demands. This is a really special opportunity. Everyone can see what an exciting time it is for the club, and I cannot wait to play my part in supporting my teammates and helping drive the group forward.”
Darlow is expected to provide experienced backup to first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens following André Onana’s season-long loan move to Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor.
Manchester United continue to strengthen their squad under manager Michael Carrick after securing a return to European competition. The club has already completed the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea following his loan spell at Strasbourg.

Reports also suggest United have reached an agreement with Aston Villa for Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans in a deal worth £35 million.
